Sunday Mornings from April 17th to June 5th 2011*
*If it is raining hard, we may postpone it until the following Sunday, however, a little rain is fine.
City/Area: Hamilton/Dundas/Brantford
Meet Time: 11:00 am
Start Time: 11:15 Distance: 25 100 kms
Meeting place: Dundas Conservation Trail Centre (enter from Governors road in Dundas to the Conservation Area and follow the signs to the trail centre. We will meet at the bike racks, just outside the doors of the centre.
A brief description of the ride: The ride will begin from the trail centre, which is located within the Dundas Conservation Area and will take you from the trail centre along the rail trail towards Brantford. The trail is very scenic and extends as far as Cambridge and offers various ranges of difficulty, as there are many flat areas, as well as some challenging hills. Additionally, the terrain of the trail is not always smooth; therefore, you may want to consider a bike that can handle these types of conditions. We will begin our training by riding to a predetermined route marker, turning around and heading back to the beginning. Then, as the weeks progress, we will go along the trail further, until we have reached a distance that is comparable to a days conquer cancer ride. On average, 20 kms takes one hour, therefore a 100 km ride will take around 5 hours to complete.
Are bathrooms and water/snacks available on the route:
At the trail centre, there is a snack bar, and bathrooms. However, along the trail there is nothing available until you get into Brantford. There may be a place that is off the trail, which I could look into if anyone is interested. I would suggest you bring everything you need for the ride, such as water, snacks, gloves, hats, as well as a cell phone and a tire patch kit.
Level of difficulty: The trail is easy for the first 25 kms, then it progressively gets more difficult as there are more hills, and so on. For the most part, it is an intermediate ride.
RSVP: If you are interested in joining this training ride, email me at mcvanelvinm@hdsb.ca or call me at home at (905) 628-1864. I am in Dundas and about a 10 minute bike ride to the trail centre.
RSVP: No RSVP required. Just show up on time, ready to ride.
